As urban mobility accelerates and more people rely on motorcycle and scooters for daily transport, expectations for motorcycle safety continue to rise. New rider groups, denser city environments, and evolving mobility patterns are driving demand for higher protection levels, system reliability, and seamless technology integration. At the same time, global regulations are tightening, and premium brands are raising the bar for protective gear, bringing motorcycle safety closer to the standards long established in passenger vehicles.

For decades, Autoliv has shaped global road safety through leadership in restraint systems and airbag technologies. Today, that expertise is being extended directly onto the rider. The new RS Taichi Airbag Vest featuring Autoliv’s integrated airbag system marks a major milestone. It is Autoliv’s first fully engineered on rider airbag solution, developed end to end, from early concept and system specification to testing, validation, and industrial readiness. The result is a complete, production ready airbag platform designed to meet the needs of leading motorcycle apparel manufacturers and the realities of modern riding.

At the core of the system is a lightweight, slim airbag module that integrates smoothly into a vest without compromising comfort or ergonomics. It includes a validated Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and a crash detection algorithm engineered according to automotive grade safety principles and adapted specifically to motorcycle crash dynamics.
A one piece woven airbag cushion and a cold gas inflator draw on Autoliv’s decades of airbag design and manufacturing expertise. The system has been refined through repeated prototype cycles, real rider evaluations, static testing, and extensive laboratory validation at Autoliv facilities, providing high confidence in real world injury reduction performance.

The platform is designed for scalability. Its modular architecture enables integration into various garment types and future on vehicle applications. This allows OEMs and apparel brands to expand their protective product lines across segments, riding styles, and regional needs, supporting the global growth in demand for wearable airbag technologies.

This launch signals a foundational shift toward more integrated, user centric rider protection across future mobility. Every ride tells a story, and Autoliv’s mission is to help ensure more of those stories end safely.
