Driving Global Road Safety: Autoliv’s Commitment to Safer Roads

At Autoliv, road safety is at the core of everything we do. As the global leader in automotive safety, we are committed to reducing traffic-related injuries and fatalities through innovation, collaboration, and industry leadership. Our ongoing efforts focus on promoting best practices, fostering cross-sector partnerships, and supporting initiatives that make roads safer for everyone. Autoliv joined the 4th Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety (Feb 17-20, 2025) to drive impactful discussions on lifesaving innovations.

Supporting Safe and Affordable Helmets

Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users, and wearing a helmet is one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injuries. To help increase helmet use globally, Autoliv is proud to support the United Nations’ Safe and Affordable Helmets (SAAH) initiative. This campaign aims to make high-quality, cost-effective helmets more accessible, ensuring that more riders can protect themselves on the road.

In addition to supporting this global effort, Autoliv is launching an internal program to promote helmet use among commuting employees. Starting in Thailand, this initiative will expand to other regions over the next five years, reinforcing our commitment to safety within our own operations and beyond.

Advancing Corporate Leadership in Road Safety

Autoliv is also taking a leadership role in shaping corporate best practices for road safety. We are participating in a new assessment framework developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Transport Forum (ITF), which aims to guide companies in implementing and evaluating road safety initiatives across their value chains. By aligning with this framework, we are reinforcing our commitment to transparency and accountability in our road safety impact.

Strengthening Industry Collaboration

No single organization can solve global road safety challenges alone. That’s why Autoliv actively collaborates with governments, policymakers, industry partners, and academic institutions to drive meaningful change. Our participation in international road safety forums and partnerships, such as our ongoing collaboration with the UN Road Safety Fund, helps advance new safety solutions and policy initiatives that benefit society as a whole.

A Long-Term Commitment to Safer Mobility

At Autoliv, we recognize that improving road safety requires long-term dedication and continuous innovation. Through our expertise in automotive safety, our engagement in global initiatives, and our proactive efforts within our own operations, we are committed to making roads safer today and in the future.

"Road safety is key to everything we do, and cross-sector collaboration is crucial for achieving substantial and effective improvements. Autoliv contributes to the Global Sustainability Goals and the related action plans by sharing our expertise and demonstrating what can be done already today to improve road safety globally and what may be possible in the future. Collaboration among academia, industry, and government is fundamental to innovative, differentiating, and operational capabilities,” said Dr. Cecilia Sunnevång, Vice President Research, Autoliv.
