In the dynamic realm of vehicle safety, our commitment at Autoliv is unwavering: to create products that are accessible and effective for all individuals, irrespective of their backgrounds and demographics. We recognize that safety knows no boundaries, and our mission is to protect lives on the road in order to save more lives.

Advancing Equitable Occupant Protection

Autoliv is actively engaged in advancing equitable occupant protection and continuously strives to provide detailed safety results to enhance mobility safety worldwide. We promote and develop regulatory upgrades on equitable occupant protection and actively work to deliver more detailed results on this matter.

A truly cross-disciplinary research and development approach

In the past, certain groups — such as women, children, and the elderly — have not received adequate representation in crash tests and safety research. Autoliv recognizes this issue and aims to address the specific safety requirements of these vulnerable populations. To achieve this, we take into account additional variables like gender, age, and size. Furthermore, we draw from a wider range of data sources, including biomechanics, behavior, and psychology, to adopt a real-life approach in the traffic analysis.

What we do in Traffic Safety analysis is that we use the in-depth databases available, insurance data and collaborate with different database providers and services. We usually look for what are the most frequent injuries, what are the most frequent load cases and what stands out for the population.
Cecilia Sunnevang, VP Research

Despite the progress made so far, Autoliv continually seeks for having a more refined injury criteria to cover the entire population. As a crucial member of UN’s Informal Equitable Occupant Protection Working Group, we are pushing to raise the bar for international awareness on regulation and rating when it comes to equity and safety.

We are dedicating significant effort and resources to develop a virtual human body model. Through virtual engineering and testing, we can address far more aspects than what is feasible in the physical world. This will, of course, mean that we have to understand how many different models it takes to represent the population.

Towards More Equitable and Inclusive Society

At Autoliv, we firmly believe that safety lies at the heart of our business. It serves as a fundamental principle that steers our relentless efforts to Save More Lives. By placing equity at the forefront of vehicle safety, we not only deliver world-class safety solutions for all road users but also play a vital role in fostering a more equitable and inclusive society.

Our work with the UN's Informal Equitable Occupant Protection Working Group is leading us to adopt a more comprehensive definition of equity. We aim to improve the accessibility of our products to every vulnerable occupant and save more lives.
