On April 3, Dr. Cecilia Sunnevång was honored with the award at the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles (ESV) conference in Yokohama, Japan. Dr. Sunnevång was awarded in recognition for her outstanding leadership and special contributions in the field of motor vehicle safety.
Dr. Sunnevång was among the distinguished award recipients who were recognized jointly by the leaderships of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).
“I am very honored and happy to receive this recognition as it is validating the great work my colleagues and I do every day at Autoliv Research. For 70 years, Autoliv has developed occupant safety products based on research and I am happy to be part of that legacy. We still have 1.3 million reasons to do more, and we will continue our work until all road users are safe,” said Cecilia Sunnevång.

“The contributions made by the awardees advance our ability to design and build vehicles that protect vulnerable road users as well as vehicle occupants,” NHTSA Communications Director Veronica Morales said. “Their vital research adds to our collective knowledge of how we can more effectively prevent crashes and save lives on roads around the world. Their work spans the broad array of vehicle safety factors, including biomechanics, active safety systems, ADAS design and testing, human modeling, and pedestrian safety.”
The award ceremony was held on April 3, 2023, following the official welcoming address at the 27th International Technical Conference on the Enhanced Safety of Vehicles.
