Autoliv Electronics in New Cooperation

Making the Telematics Offering Simple
Autoliv, and a group of well established players in the telematics arena, have announced a co-operation to provide an end-to-end delivery of telematics services to the vehicle industry. The composition of the partners will allow for a complete solution through development and production, and onwards to the end users.

There will be a one time cost for this solution with no additional or recurring charges, making it a simple, yet unique, business model. This cost efficient concept will make telematics more attractive for the vehicle buying public and increase the utilization of the car telematics services in Europe. The solution is fully operational across europe.

Telematics is a rapidly growing market that includes such services as automatic crash notification to an emergency center (e-call), break-down call to a vehicle assistance center by pushing a button in the vehicle (b-call) and Stolen Vehicle Tracking (SVT).

Autoliv, the worldwide leading supplier of vehicle safety systems, takes the responsibility for the entire solution. In co-operation with well-established players in the telematics industry an offering of proven knowledge and experience is possible. Autoliv supplies and integrates the hardware into the vehicle. A leading European network operator provides the SIM cards and air-time for the services. One of the most experienced Telematics Service Providers, WirelessCar, is the operator of the backend systems and; finally, a worldwide reaching partner is providing local call centre services. The above components are packaged as an offering to simplify the complex world of telematics.

This co-operation allows for vehicle manufacturers to benefit from years of experience while allowing them to be an active and integral part of their respective offering. Accordingly, they have the opportunity to create and maintain their respective Brand identities.

“We are convinced that a set-up like this will mean that telematics finally will be something that becomes as obvious in new cars as airbags or seatbelts. A business model that eliminates monthly fees, subscription costs, etc., in combination with an aggressive pricing and pan-European coverage will enable safety and security related telematics services at a competitive cost and with an effort that can’t be compared to what we have seen so far” says Mr Lars-Gunnar Jönsson Senior Director of Autoliv Electronics.

“With this offering we have simplified the telematics system and made it as easy to buy as any other option on a car” says Harald Landt Managing Director of WirelessCar.
