PSI5: Sensor interface for universal applications - Cooperation between Autoliv, Bosch and Continental Temic

- Universal application for automotive sensors
- Inexpensive digital two-wire interface
- Open standard

The companies Autoliv, Bosch and Continental Temic have cooperated in the development of the PSI5 sensor interface, an open standard for universal automotive applications.

PSI is the abbreviation for Peripheral Sensor Interface. The future PSI5 generation is the result of continuous improvement of Bosch's digital sensor interface, already in use by almost all vehicle manufacturers in over 50 million sensor applications
The PSI5 concept meets the needs of the vehicle manufacturers for interface standardization.

The development focus ofthe engineers from Autoliv, Bosch and Continental Temic was set on increasing flexibility (variable data word length and quiescent current) and a wider range of functionality. PSI5 will retain well-established characteristics such as high reliability, high data transmission rates and very good EMC characteristics (electro-magnetic compatibility).

PSI5 will be used in future generations of sensors in occupant safety systems. The excellent technical qualities, the reduced effort regarding implementation and application, as well as the attractive cost make the PSI5 also suitable for many other automotive sensor applications – especially where analog signal transmission is still in use.

With their design concept for a global, open standard, the cooperation partners have created the basis for a company-independent, worldwide usage in many applications.
